Learning to fly requires a proper airplane. The picture below shows a typical trainer,The wing is high on the fuselage,The airfoil is flat bottom which produces a maximum amount of lift with a low airspeed.
This is necessary to allow a student time to think through the control the aircraft,The wing has plenty of dihedral (the V shape of the wing) This promotes good stability and self recovering characteristics.
Most training aircrafts are "40" size, which means a displacement of 0.40 cubic inches in the engine. And most trainers also require a 4 channel radio.
A channel represents each control point on the aircraft,The 4 are Throttle for thrust control,Elevator for pitch control,Aileron for roll control and Rudder for yaw control.
You will also need some basic field equipment like fuel, fuelpump, glowplug igniter, starter, etc etc.
Our club instructs on Monday,Wednesday and Friday evenings from the beginning of May to the end of August.
If you have any questions about learning to fly, come on out and speak to an instructor
at the Walkersfield or at a club meeting.
We can help you choose the right equipment for the most enjoyment.
